Scientific Thinking in Management E-mail

We offer an eBook entitled "How do Scientists Think?".  It explores the generic parameters that scientists employ when they go about the scientific endeavour.  Our focus at Van Thinking is to apply Scientific Thinking to Management and Organizational problems.

Scientific Thinking is not only relevant to the laboratories and experiments of science, and also not restricted to the application of the scientific method. We believe that thinking in a disciplined manner to facilitate generation of new knowledge and increase understanding is a natural human function, and an embedded skill that all of us have and can develop further. One time-proven example of such a disciplined thinking skill is Scientific Thinking.

Through the centuries scientific thinking proved itself to be more productive than any other way of thinking we know of. It is important to know that this disciplined way of generating knowledge is accessible to everybody, not only to a few experts. It is a normal human way of thinking. For this reason our approach makes scientific applicable to organisational, management and strategic decision making.

In order to develop this skill, we need to sharpen our capability in the following:

  1. To know what the elements of scientific thinking are and how they interact.
  2. To be able to construct appropriate articulations of these elements for the situation we are evaluating.
  3. The ability to think according to the nature of the problem at hand and not restrict ourselves to one method when we apply scientific thinking.

When new understanding is required to unlock value, then scientific thinking is without rival in its proven success. You can benefit greatly from knowing how to construct a thought framework that provides sufficient constraints to be productive, while it allows enough room for innovation, not too restrictive to find useful answers. Having the ability to create this balance in thinking about something is an art that can be sharpened and utilised to our advantage once we have acquired the skills listed above. Our courses focus on all of these aspects.
