Presenter:  Mariana van der Walt

"If complexity scientists are right in arguing that complex adaptive systems of all kinds - in the natural world and the world of business - share fundamental properties and processes, then (complexity) science offers something that most management theories do not."  Roger Lewin

If the traditional linear way of solving problems does not yield useful results, then changing the way you think about the problem is likely to be the best way forward.  Complexity thinking provides you with one way to engage messy and wicked problems.

This course is all about organizational complexity, but it is also about more - it is about the complex thinking skills required to make sense of  complex organizational realities.  Complexity is more than a buzz word or the latest fad, it describes a reality that most managers and organizational leaders are familiar with, and for the most do not know how to respond to appropriately.  Understanding organizational complexity in practical ways adds real value to solving organizational problems and making sound decisions that would steer the company to more success.  As always in our courses, the focus is on the knowledge economy.

This course is a prerequisite for all our organizational decision making interactive, online courses other than DM001A.  You can do this course as a stand-alone course to up-skill your thinking skills, oryou can choose to do it together with our other courses in Decision Making.  Our more advanced online course in Decision Making, DM001B, integrate the insights that you will gain from this course with the dynamics of organizational decision making.
