Gert Hattingh has completed an Honours degree in Physics at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa (SA). His most current employment was at the Institute for Maritime Technology, where he was appointed as a Chief Scientist in the field of Knowledge Dynamics. He was a project leader for many projects which focused on making the operational and strategic decision making world more comfortable for decision makers.
One of his outstanding achievements was the design and implementation of the South African Defence Force Effectiveness Model, which is a methodology to measure organizational effectiveness at all levels of the organization. More recently, his focus shifted with a team of co-workers to the design and (first order implementation) of resilience modeling. This methodology focuses on using the characteristics of Complex Adaptive systems. He was also responsible for giving the SA Navy strategic direction with regard to the changes in Maritime Warfare and new (emerging) technologies (MEMS and Nano Technology) that would influence warfare in the medium and long term. In the past, Gert was involved in teaching Physics at university level. His tenure at the University of Stellenbosch also included lecturing in applied physics subjects such as Nautical Science. Gert started his career at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station as Reactor Physicist, specializing in Nuclear Fuel Integrity.
