Free Email Course: Organizational Complexity E-mail

It is almost trivial to state that organizations are complex.  They do not yield to simple descriptions, and their behaviour defies simplified explanations.  Understanding what this means and how to engage organizations appropriately, taking their complexity into account, requires some effort, but is a worthwhile and rewarding thing to do.  It will help you to interact with the organization more appropriately, and will also inform you how to bring about organizational change in productive ways.

"Complexity" has almost become a buzz word.  Sometimes we use it as a kind of disclaimer to state that something is "very difficult".  However, complexity is is more than that.  It is a new paradigm, a new way of thinking an approaching things that adds much value to the way we go about engaging such "complex" phenomena.

At Van Thinking we draw from multi-disciplinary insights into the nature of complexity - with the specific focus to unlock value for professional knowledge workers in organizations and management decision makers.

Our free email course explores the meaning of "organizational complexity".  During this 11 day course you will increase your understanding about what complexity is and what that means for the realities found in organizations.  It will also provide you with the knowledge to know what to look out for in organizations so you can best use their complex behaviour to advance the goals and objectives of the organizations rather than to be taken by surprise by the unforeseen consequences and behavioural patterns that are so prevalent in organizations.

Subjects we cover

We cover the ten principles of organizational complexity by looking at the following subjects:

Day 1:  overview of the Ten Principles of Organizational Complexity
Day 2:  Self-organization and Emergence (and also touching on synchrony)
 Day 3:  Connectivity and Interdependence
Day 4:  Co-evolution
Day 5:  Far from Equilibrium and History
Day 6:  Space of Possibilities

These principles of complexity are explored to find their meaning in organizational realities.  Together they provide a new way of thinking about organizations, and a new paradigm by which to engage organizations and organizational change.

You can also watch an online slideshow (with audio) about organizational complexity.

If you are not sure what these subjects mean and how they relate to organizational realities, you have so much more reason to subscribe  for this free email course.  You will not be disappointed, as complexity provides a rich set of concepts that we can use to engage and understand organizations better.
