The most important aspect of rational decision making

It speaks for itself that compiling the Decision Criteria (also called value system or decision rules) is the one aspect of rational decision making that influences decision outcomes most.  It is for this reason that we give special attention to it in the form of a practical guide that we make available as an ebook.

Whenever rational decision making is used, a set of "decision rules" needs to be compiled.  This is often called the "value system" to be used during the decision making process.  Compiling a value system is not a trivial process, especially where the role players are not homogeneous in their views and interests (which is often the case).  The processes we describe are useful in all settings, but we describe them primarily for organizational decision makers.

This ebook is a practical guide providing step by step descriptions of the processes to follow in order to compile good decision making criteria.

The content of the ebook

This ebook provides information about the processes to follow for two types of decision making environments.  Of course in real life you will often find yourself somewhere in a situation that has some attributes of both.  In that case you can customize the processes to suit your specific requirements and decision environment.

  1. In a homogeneous setting, where the decision makers agree on most important values, and
  2. In a diverse and pluralist setting, where decision makers do not agree on most of the important values

We also distinguish between Basic Values and Dynamic Values.  Basic values are non-negotiable, while the dynamic values (or decision rules) are specific to the decision to be made or its environment.  In this way we are able to describe how to go about compiling the decision rules (value system) for any decision environment you need to engage - from relatively easy ones where there is a hogh level of agreement to very tough ones where there is little agreement among role players in the decision process.

The ebook describes processes to follow in order to compile useful and productive value systems for decisions in both of these kinds of environments.

IMPORTANT:  If you already purchased our Handbook for Organizational Decision Making, you need not purchase this ebook on how to compile a value system, since it is contained in that handbook as well.
